Avatar

Avatar is a long movie, but a good one so bear with me. We begin on Earth where a man, Jake Sully, tells he is a marine and he cannot walk. His twin brother dies so he has to take his place as a scientist on a trip to Pandora. 5 years of cryosleep later it is the year 2154 and they have made it to Pandora. Turns out Pandora is inhabited by other people and Jake has to go out into Pandora and talk to the clans to get them to peacefully leave because there are money-making rocks under their tree. The first time they go out to get samples from trees he accidentally gets lost in the woods after being chased by a giant hound-like creature. He meets a member of one of the clans, Neytiri, who eventually takes him in and starts teaching him the ways of their people including their language and hunting. He passes all the tests including finding a banshee so that he can become a part of their clan. The military stationed in Pandora decides that if the clans aren’t going to leave their home then they will take it down by force. And they do just that. They destroyed their home and killed many including Neytiri’s father, the leader of the clan. Jake decides that all the clans must join forces in order to win against the technology of the humans. In the end, they win the battle and Jake officially becomes a member of their clan, leaving his human body for his Avatar body.

This movie teaches us about not ruining our habitat. It is known throughout the movie that humans basically destroyed Earth and now the natives believe, and it is true, that they will now destroy Pandora, their home. As people on the Earth, what we need to do is make sure that this doesn’t happen. We must preserve the Earth and protect it and all its living organisms so that in the future we don’t have to destroy another planet and the life forms on it.
